ABOUT

Three decades ago, I began to explore the benefits of yoga after a car accident that left me with chronic pain and would eventually lead to permanent damage of the vertebrae in my spine. Through yoga I found pain relief, greater strength, focus, and balance, strategies for managing stress and anxiety, and a sense of community and healing.

I earned my first 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher certification in 2017, and completed a second 200-hour certification in the YogaHour method in 2021. In addition, I've earned continuing education certificates in Ashtanga Yoga, Yin Yoga, Trauma-Informed Yoga, Para Yoga, Purna Yoga, and The Art of Sequencing: Writing an Embodied Song.

With a background in literature, music, media, and business, I have worked on both the creative and administrative sides of non-profit, commercial, federal, and arts organizations. When I first became certified to teach yoga, I  was working in accounting for a commercial real estate developer, freelancing as a producer, and teaching audio editing at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After earning my first RYT certification, I happily reduced my three gigs to just one and have been teaching ever since.

Through Songbird Studios Yoga & Swim School, I have offered people of all ages and stages—from infants to octagenarians—private swim lessons and a variety of yoga classes, both indoors and outdoors, as well as online via video, for those in the greater Kansas City area and beyond. While I am no longer offering swim lessons, I still love swimming and being in and around the water, singing with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus, reading, writing, and collaborating with area artists, hiking, gardening, and being with friends, family, and my sweet dogs.
